I am at the point of defining my Physical Architecture in Capella. I was expecting to be able to attach, include or reference a detailed state-machine diagram for various components on the diagram.
I can’t find any way of doing that. Seaching the manuals (and having both Claude and NotebookLM search for me) .. I can’t find the correct way to do this. The suggestion is to define these state machines at the 'Logical Architecture’ level then link them to the PA. But I can’t work out how to do any of that .. no menu / palette options seems to enable creation of a State Machine Diagram - then associating that with an element on the PA.
I am using Capella Version: 7.0.1 Build id: 202503211540 on Windows.
I discovered that there was no menu option (on version 7.0.1 at least) to add a State Machine below a Logical Component.
However, I discovered could add one at the correct point by coming from the other direction. I.e. using the Activity Browser (Logical Architecture .. Transverse Modelling .. [MSM] Create a new state machine diagram) the corresponding dialog enabled me to attach the SM to my Logical Component.
So that is good - although I wonder why ‘Add State Machine’ is not part of the right-click context menu for a Logical Component. Am I missing something?
Now I just have to work out how to associate that Logical Component with Physical Components in my Physical Architecture
Thank you. Yes - I can add a State Machine like that. But that does not create a diagram I think. I see no [MDM] attached to this. When I right-click on the State Machine there is no option to create a diagram.
I think that, given your input, I now see that I have to first add a ‘Region’ to the state-machine .. and from that I can then create the [MDM] diagram.
So I believe the procedure is:
Within Logical Architecture .. Structure .. Logical system .. Logical Component
