How to Reduce Lag and Improve Startup Time in Capella 7.0.1?

Hi everyone,

I’m experiencing lag in Capella 7.0.1 (up to 10 seconds) and occasional freezes when navigating between diagrams or importing requirements. Capella’s startup time is also very long.

Following the documentation, I increased Xms to 2000m and Xmx to 4000m. I also disabled linking content to workbench selection event in the Semantic Browser, but saw no significant improvement.

Are there other settings or configurations that might improve performance? Should I consider downgrading to an older LTS version?

Here is my configuration:

  • OS: Windows 11

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7535U (6 cores / 12 threads @ 2.90 GHz)

  • GPU: AMD Radeon Graphics (Integrated, 1.0 GB VRAM)

  • RAM: 16.0 GB DDR5 @ 4800 MT/s

  • Storage: NVMe SSD (Samsung 512 GB)

Unlikely downgrading to a previous version would improve performance. But you may want to give it a try as a last resort.

Maybe an antivirus issue?

How big is your model (how many diagrams, model elements - right-click on the .aird file and open the property window, and select Sirius Session details)

Yes, the performance problem likely comes from the environmental limits like not having admin rights on my work laptop,

Here are the details for my model:
Model Size: 189.24 KB
Number of Diagrams: 2
Model Elements (Total): 1032

Yes, your model is very small so that’s not the issue here. Not easy to find out what is going on here…

Is there a way to activate an indepth kind of trace/profiling to monitor where does the bottleneck come from ?

I don’t think so. I would try to look at the windows task manager first. Make sure if you have a laptop that you’re on the “Performance setting’“. And deactivate any antivirus for a short period to test.

Thanks a lot Stephane for your response. Switching to high performance mode did improve the overall performance. The startup is still slow, but once the application is open the model runs smoothly

That’s good to hear.

Yes about startup, and it will be particularly slow if the last time you closed Capella, you let your project/diagram opened.

I have experienced issues recently with Anti-virus software scanning the files during Capella opening. But once started wasn’t an issue. I would suggest looking at your anti-virus software.
