Creating Modes AND States

Hi All,

I’m a bit lost on creating Mode and State Machine diagrams at a system level in Capella.

I create a MSM diagram and define some Modes for the system. But then when I try to create another diagram to define States, I find that the modes appear as elements in the new diagram and they can only be “deleted from model”. Since Capella prevents mixing Modes and States on the same diagram, I’m not able to define any states.

Could someone please clarify the correct workflow for defining States and Modes in separate diagrams? How do I manage the diagram content to avoid this conflict?

I’m using Capella v7.0.0

Thank you in advance for your help

Regards,

Ebrahim

Hello,

You need to:

  1. Right-click on the component/actor whose states/modes you are describing
  2. Click on “Add Capella Element”
  3. Select “State Machine”

From there, a state machine is created under your component/actor in the Project Explorer. Under the state machine, a “Default Region” object has also been created. Then, you need to do:

  1. Right-click on “Default Region”
  2. New Diagram / Table
  3. Choose “Mode / State Machine”

Best regards,

Matthieu
