[Capella Days 2025] Integrating Mission Engineering and Model-Based Systems Engineering: An ARCADIA-Capella Approach

Dear all, there were many questions at this webinar “Integrating Mission Engineering and Model-Based Systems Engineering: An ARCADIA-Capella Approach”!

Many thanks to Ebrahim Aly from UNSW Canberra, Julian Rech and Matt Szlazak from Raytheon Australia who tool the time to answer them thoroughly during his talk : https://mbse-capella.org/capella_days_2025.html#talk_unsw_raytheon

And thank you to the participants for sharing their thoughts and asking questions to the speakers.

Below are his answers to the questions that could not be answered live :

  • Can you perform a safety analysis using the System Architecture model in Capella?
Hi Dennis, yes, similar to the cyber analysis, the Mission and System Architecture can be used to do a top-down risk assessment using a process such as System Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA). STPA will identify the architecture functions/interfaces of highest risk, which can then be managed through a traditional safety hazard-control based approach.

  • Can the hazard analysis, calculation of safety metrics and documentation of safety risk mitigation be done within Capella or does Capella make it possible to directly interface with other Safety tools ?
Yes, it’s possible to do the analysis in Capella with the appropriate add-ons installed. There is a Safety Viewpoint add-on the Capella website: Capella MBSE Tool - Add-Ons. And, there’s also a STPA add-on in GitHub: GitHub - labs4capella/stpa-capella: STPA Viewpoint for Capella. There may be other add-ons Obeo may be able to recommend too.
